The Unveiling

by Vivian Dindu Esimoleze

Oblivious of my presence, I stood aside watching how she cut the vegetables. It was with so much intensity and anger. I knew something wasn’t right with her.

ÔÇťAnything wrong, mum?” I asked.

She looked up, face already pale and eyes swollen. I could tell she’d been crying.

“Do you also know what has been going on?” She asked.

I didn’t understand her.

“What are you talking about?’ I asked.

She stopped for a while. Wiped her tears and walked up to me.

“Do you know your father has a male lover?”

The question hit straight to me. Like a bomb. I wasn’t expecting it. Or how she found out.

“Who told you that?” I asked stuttering.

“I happened to see his chats with his lover. Very raw and disgusting. I swear, I would definitely kill that lover of his if I set my eyes on him” she thundered.

“You wouldn’t want to kill your own son, would you?” I asked unconsciously.

She turned immediately with a scary face.

“Say what?!”

I realized immediately what I had said but it was too late to take back my words.

God! Talking about giving yourself away!
