Story of Douglas is a suspense-laden novel, full of twists and turns, that depicts determination, doggedness and
perseverance to succeed. It highlights the role friends and fate play in bridging the gap between the lives of human
beings and the actualization of their destinies.
Francis died and Douglas was forced to withdraw from school. While in school, Douglas met a friend, Cliff, who later followed his uncle to the United States to read Medicine. Doris, Douglas’ sister, was taken as a housemaid to Lagos but later became a prostitute. Douglas later joined a gang – no thanks to Jude – where he met a friend called Spider. Spider unknowingly befriended and fell in love with Doris, and was determined to marry her. But it was a different story when Douglas’ sister, Alice, objected to the plan. Nevertheless, Spider eventually married Doris and withdrew from the gang. Douglas tried but was unable to withdraw. He was later apprehended and detained in a police cell. Cliff returned from the United States.
On a fateful day, he followed Iyke to a police cell to see Mike, Iyke’s friend. Coincidentally, Douglas was in the same cell with Mike and Cliff bailed both Douglas and Mike. Douglas later became a Tailor and Cliff started to work in a hospital. Douglas later reunited with Scorpion, his former gang member, who also became a Tailor after the gang was dissolved. Douglas finally followed Cliff to the United States. Would Spider and Scorpion eventually reunite with the rest of the ex-gang members? Would Doris reconcile with Gladys? Would Dan ever tell Gladys he met Doris in a brothel? Would Alice ever forgive Spider? Would Bullet, the evil genius, ever be apprehended?
